Oct 7-9

Parents,

What a great week we had! Conferences were very enjoyable, as each student showed off, and we work together to set goals for this year. We appreciate the work you do at home, to help school be an enjoyable and successful experience for your child.

No school Thursday, Friday and next Monday. Enjoy your fall break, and READ A GOOD BOOK. J

Next week, we will be sending home our Spelling Spectacular words. This is our school's fundraiser. Students will be given 20 spelling words, in two weeks to study. Watch for more info coming home next Monday.

This week we will be reviewing everything we have learned this year. Short vowels, nouns (common and proper), verbs, narrative stories, spaces, letter placement, addition and subtraction.

Reading calendars were due last week. If you didn't send yours in, please get it in this week.

A note from Mrs. Liston,
Dear Parents,

Last Monday, we had a great opportunity to meet a group of elementary students who were from China. The students were very excited to meet with them and make new friends. This past week, we had a good parent/teacher conference.  Thank you to all of you who were able to come. The students were very excited to show off their Chinese skills to their parents.

The BetterChinese online learning program is a tool to help your child review the lessons that they had learned in class. If you already ordered the program, please help your child spend 5 to 10 minutes every day to review the lessons at home.

Homework:
Math- Subtraction homework
Chinese-reading lesson 3, and writing lesson 3 (Some students already finished their Chinese writing homework in class, so they don't have Chinese writing homework this week.)
Reading: Continue reading 20 minutes every night, and record on the October calendar.
Life Skill: Know at least two phone numbers to contact parents, and home address.

In class, we are learning:
Math- Subtraction concepts/story problem/number sentences
Language Arts- "Stop and Think" reading strategy, Does it make sense? Does it look right?
Writing- Writing a letter to someone
Phonics- Review of all short vowels
Chinese- Lesson 4, What is your nationality?
Social/Science study- Then and Now
