Oct 29 - Nov 2


First Grade is the Place to be!!! Everyday we learn together, laugh and grow. Thank you for the privilege of teaching your child!
Halloween is on Wednesday, and we have lots of fun planned! Your child should wear their costume to school in the morning. Please do not send little parts that may get lost. Masks, FULL face paint or weapons (even pretend) are NOT allowed. There will be a school wide parade beginning at 1:15. All parents are invited to come to the gym and see the students come around.
*Reflections contest entries are due Tomorrow!
This week:
Homework
Chinese -Math- Counting Back (subtraction)
English-Reading- Folders will be checked on Thursday and Friday for reading days. Please make sure they are updated. Students who read more than 20 days will receive a coupon to Maui Chill. J
English-Spelling- Please work on spelling words at home. Discuss the spelling pattern, and look for words that are similar in reading.
 In class, we are learning:
Math-Subtract from 12
Language Arts- syllables, sentences, “Attacking” an unknown word while reading
Writing- Narrative story (we get to illustrate these in art next week)
Phonics- Long i with silent e
Chinese- I go to Dahua (Alpine) Elementary School. Lesson 5
Social/Science study- Map skills

Spelling Words:
Blue: (review) went, said, have, from, like, was, came, come, are, they
Yellow: (long i, with silent e) bike, white, nice, time, ride, side, father, mother, family, nine
Red: (ee vs. ea) each, team, seat, read, week, need, clean, teach, three, your
